The Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Probability Scale was developed by Naranjo and coworkers from the University of Toronto in 1991, and is commonly termed as the Naranjo Scale. This scale helps in to calculate the total score and interpretation of score accordingly. This scale is used for causality assessment of Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR).

How Adverse Drug Reaction Probability score is calculated and interpreted?

This scale is based on 10 questions with three answers- Yes, No and Do not know. The score is provided for each response. After answering all questions total score is calculated and interpreted based on total score.

The response “Do not know” should be used carefully and only when the quality of the data does not allow “Yes” or “No” answer. “Do not know” can be applicable if the information is not available and also if the question is inapplicable to the case.
